Thirty local business leaders participated in this year’s event, raising over $52,000 to fund programs supporting brain injury survivors, their families, and caregivers. VMAC raised over $3,800 through corporate and coworker donations, contributing to the event’s success, and earning second place in the race to be the top fundraising team.
“When my team suggested tossing me off a bridge for the Nanaimo Brain Injury Society, I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity,” said Brent Johnston, VMAC’s CFO. “The support we received from our coworkers and the community was amazing, and I’m proud to have jumped for such a worthy cause.”
Kix Citton, Executive Director at NBIS, emphasized the importance of the funds raised. "Every donation we receive through Toss The Boss helps us provide vital services, including counselling, housing supports, and advocacy for brain injury survivors and their families. We’re incredibly grateful for the community’s generosity and for the leadership shown by participants like Brent and VMAC.”
“VMAC believes it’s essential to invest in the communities where our business is located,” explains Tod Gilbert, VMAC’s President. “Our safety values align with the Nanaimo Brain Injury Society’s mission to create healthy, safe, and inclusive communities, making NBIS an ideal partner for VMAC’s corporate sponsorship program.”
Gilbert jumped for Toss The Boss in 2023 and was keen to pass the torch to Brent for 2024. Already, volunteers are vying for the coveted opportunity to represent VMAC and champion fundraising for NBIS in 2025.
